Since the start of school, my blogging has
severely slowed down. No excuses! I want to make sure I continue to document Tucker's life, so here we go again.
I started school the last week of August which, needless to say, stunk big time! I was really sad and cried a lot the days leading up to it, the first day, the first night, the second day, the second night...you get the picture. The good thing is that I did the majority of the crying and Tucker hardly noticed. He transitioned quite smoothly. I was fortunate enough to have my mom stay with us for the first 3 days while I had teacher prep meetings. This eased the transition and she was really awesome and made us food that we ate the rest of the week. My first day of school with students, I had to drop Tucker off at the babysitter's. In some ways this was probably a good thing. I got to school and barely had time to sit and wallow in my sadness for missing my baby because I had 23 excited nine year olds ready to learn!
His babysitter is a mom of one of my students. She watches 2 other teachers kid's. She is really sweet and Tucker seems to really like going there. The other kids are 1.5 and 2.5 so I'm sure he loves watching them run around. He naps like a champ at her house and has had no problems taking bottles. All of which I'm super thankful for.
My life has changed drastically- gone are the days of hanging around all morning, going for leisurely walks around the neighborhood, running errands, visiting friends, and napping in the afternoons. I now wake up, feed Tucker, pump, get ready, pack my lunch, pack Tucker's bottles, carry all of the bags to the car, get Tucker ready, and leave the house hoping I didn't forget anything important, drop Tucker off, go to school, attempt to get all my work done in the 20 minutes before kids arrive and the 20 minutes after kids leave, pump during my prep and recess time, pick Tucker up, go home, clean bottles, play with Tucker, maybe take a walk, try to eat dinner, play with Tucker some more, feed him, give him a bath, read books, put him to bed, finish school work, make my lunch, pack the bags, and go to bed so I'm ready to go at it all over again! I definitely think I need to add "working mom" to my resume. This is definitely the toughest job I've ever had and requires a ton of organizational and time-management skills!
Jared helps out wherever and whenever possible. I do the majority of the dropping off and picking up of Tucker since he's right by my school. Jared is also super busy with teaching 4 completely different classes and brand new ones at that. His nights are usually spent pouring over a textbook trying to learn what he needs to teach the following day. But, we are still sooo thankful that he has been able to bike to work and not drive an hour each way! We will be extremely busy for the next 9 months but love what we do, however, wish we could bring Tucker with us everyday!
Back to Tucker... he is approaching his 6 month birthday and I can't believe this sweet little person has been in our lives for 1/2 a year already! Where does the time go? I look at him and can't believe he's not my little newborn anymore. He's become an active baby! I catch myself saying, "I just had a baby," and then realize I didn't just have a baby-crazy! He just keeps getting more and more fun. He giggles like crazy, makes lots of sounds, rolls around, sits up (almost completely on his own), plays with toys, and grabs everything! He is really chubby (around 19 lbs) and is going through clothes like crazy. He's officially wearing 9-12 month sizes. His little thighs are so pudgy, it's hard to get pants over them! I love all the rolls and wouldn't trade them for anything!
